California Spiny Lobster Fishing in Orange County and Beyond: Exploring Catalina Island

California Spiny Lobster are absolutely delicious. Join us and discover how fun it can be to fish and harvest some of the world's highest priced crustaceans in the ocean. Fishing for them involves fishing at night and some labor, but the rewards are worth the energy and time spent. Personally, California Lobster is my favorite meat hands down; easy to prepare yet soooo tasty. 

The front side of Catalina is closed to commercial lobster fishing, meaning no commercial lobster pots, resulting in an excellent recreational fishery. If you are seeking the best shot at limits, Catalina is where you want to go! Fishing locally for them, we catch a lot of keepers early on in the season, followed by a steady decline in legal sized lobster abundance. 

Our lobster trips include all fishing gear, bait, and an electric pot puller to make hauling traps up from underwater much much easier on our backs. You need to provide your own fishing license, lobster card, food, drink, and warm clothes.

Lobster fishing trips include

  • All top of the line Promar hoop nets, line, buoys, bait cages.
  • Pacific Pro Ace Line Hauler to pull heavy hoop nets up without breaking our backs.
  • Tank to keep lobsters alive during the duration of the trip.
  • Ice chests with ice and bottled water provided, with space left for your food and beverage.

What equipment you can bring

  • Fishing license for everyone 16yrs old or more found here - California Fish and Game website.
  • Lobster Report Card permits for all onboard.
  • Warm clothes you don't mind getting dirty, marine deck boots or other water proof boot is best for feet.
  • Sun protection hats, sunglasses, etc.
  • Food and drinks.

Loss or breaking rod, reel, or boating equipment will result in a charge to client for replacement.

Frequently asked questions about Lobster Fishing

Q. How do you book a trip? How does payment work?
A. A 50% deposit required to book a trip, and we process this via credit card over the phone, Venmo, or Zelle. Deposit is refundable up to 14 days before trip, after that point deposit is non refundable.​
​Q. What is the industry standard tip?
A. We work very hard everyday to keep our clients safe, with rods bent, and smiles on their faces. An industry standard tip of 10-20% is greatly appreciated.
​Q. What is your cancellation policy?
A. If your plans change you have up until 2 weeks before the trip to receive deposit back, within two weeks we keep deposit. Occasionally, weather cancels the trips. We can either reschedule or refund your deposit.
​Q. What do you NOT do or bring on our trips?
A. Being drunk to the point of being a danger will cause termination of trip without refund. Being aggressive to crew will also cause termination of trip without refund. Lastly, no drugs are allowed on board, and this includes Marijuana.
